MARK appoints former Henderson Park executive as General Counsel

Pan-European real estate investment manager MARK has hired a new managing director and general counsel. He will assume responsibility for all legal and regulatory aspects of MARK’s business including fund formation, governance and compliance in addition to overseeing transaction execution.

Nick has over two decades of senior legal experience as an investing lawyer and fund general counsel, most recently serving as General Counsel for Henderson Park.  During his time at Henderson Park, he structured and closed funds with capital commitments of over $6bn in addition to overseeing the acquisition and disposal of significant assets across Europe and in the US.

Russell began his career at Goldman Sachs in 1998, staying with the firm for 14 years where he was Executive Director and Senior Counsel to Goldman’s European Special Situations Group.

At MARK, Russell will play a key role in strengthening the company’s legal, governance and regulatory footprint to support MARK’s multi-platform strategy, which includes urban logistics specialist Crossbay and Norwegian prime retail and office asset manager Promenaden.

Nick Russell, managing director and General Counsel at Mark, said: “With a strong brand and unique, collaborative culture, MARK has established itself as a pre-eminent value-add manager in European real estate, trusted by major institutions thanks to its ability to identify major trends ahead of others, and proven track record of delivering complex regeneration projects to create some of Europe’s most iconic new landmarks. I look forward to working with Marcus and the rest of the team in what will be a year of both immense opportunities and challenges.”

Marcus Meijer, CEO at MARK, said: “In these uncertain times, having best-in-class people with experience of multiple cycles will be crucial to the success of any business, and that is why we are pleased to be welcoming Nick, who has lived and breathed alternative asset management for many years, as MARK’s new General Counsel.”
